Whenever you need to go through a text without actually reading every word that is skim reading. You can skim read at different speeds.Read these tips on skim reading and then apply this technique while working with different text types.
- Fast skim reading happens when you just go through the pages of a book or text simply marking,possibly with a " post-it note", the beginning of each chapter or section. You can write a few words on the post-it note simply to remind you why you decided to put it there.
- Scan reading occurs when you are looking for some more specific information and you go through each page trying to identify some key word that you find of interest and / or relevant for the exercise you need to solve.
REMEMBER : when doing reading comprehension exercises skim the text first.
Then read the questions and reread the text again in order to be more effective.Then your brain will recognise relevant key words in the text that you will need to answer the questions.
