Blog Entry- ALCATRAZ PRISON

Last weekend, I took a boat from San Francisco to the world famous "ALCATRAZ PRISON" on "ALCATRAZ ISLAND."

It was a chilly, rainy day, which made the trip thrilling and exciting, however, the long distance was quite exhausting.
The place looked like it was haunted, the prison was all empty and I could hear my voice echoing. I explored a little bit around the prison and I was amazed how people built such a highly secured prison in the middle of an island. I was left stunned. I also visited a museum which was quite interesting, they had preserved weapons used by highly skilled individuals and there were sculptures representing the lifestyle of the people who lived there.
Overall, the visit to ALCATRAZ PRISON was a unique experience, with its history and captivating showcases. Despite the long journey and chilling weather, the trip was worth it.

New York !

Last weekend, I flew to New York to visit the city and the Statue of Liberty with my parents. The trip was so long and extremely boring!

After having the longest trip of my life we finally got to New York. It was a beautiful sunny day, but also a little stuffy, so after walking for some minutes through the city I was already tired.

I was amazed by this charming place (city), with so much technology and bright lights. The food was very tasty and everyone was so friendly!

After a few hours visiting New York, my parents and I went to catch the boat so we could finally see the Statue of Liberty. The trip was amazing,  quick, and had a gorgeous view, although I felt a little sick. The Statue was majestic, I was radiant by its beauty.

We had the opportunity to visit the top of the Statue and the view left me speechless, so many lights reflecting in the water, the tall buildings, the tiny people walking around, everything was perfect, especially because it was at night.

The only bad thing about this memorable trip was that it was over. I can’t point out a negative aspect of this weekend. In conclusion, a lovely trip to repeat for sure!

A trip to Alcatraz Island

 “A trip to Alcatraz Island”

Last weekend my brother and I went on one of the most interesting trips ever, to Alcatraz Island! We got there Saturday morning by boat.

It was a pretty short boat ride, but long enough for my brother to rethink his decision to come with me on this trip. Maybe it was the cold weather or the thick fog but whatever it was, left him pale and visibly anxious. I, on the other hand, was feeling really excited.

After about ten minutes on board, we got to the island. As soon as we stepped on land we felt the air thicken and saw the infamous abandoned prison. The reason I wanted to come here in the first place, was mainly because of all the stories surrounding this place. Once, I read that a criminal escaped the high-security prison and until today it’s still unknown how he did it. Spooky, isn’t it? After waiting a little bit in line we entered the old tall gates of the prison. We visited the whole place and it was awesome! We saw hundreds of cells, an abandoned canteen full of dusty tables, and an enormous outside gym. I looked at my brother, hoping to find him still pale and awkwardly quiet but, in fact, that wasn’t the case. His eyes were no longer wide open and he didn’t have that same scared face expression. He was actually enjoying the visit!

To summarize, I can say that this trip was amazing! My brother and I took many pictures to show our parents how fascinating this day was. We hope to visit more places like this in the future!

Hi  Rachel,

My name is Sara Silva, I'm 16 years old and I'm Portuguese. I have a baby sister called Madalena and two cousins that are like siblings to me. I also have a dog called Bee. I live with my mom and my stepfather in a small city in Algarve called Lagos. I love to go to the beach and I'm obsessed with dogs! I'm also very interested in space, especially on the Moon. Dancing is one of my passions so I've been doing ballet since I was 5 years old.

I attend Gil Eanes school here in Lagos in 11th grade. Here in Portugal in high school we have to choose an area and I chose science and technology, which means my classes are mainly focused on maths, biology, geology, physics, and chemistry. But I also have English, Portuguese, philosophy, and PE.

My friends are one of the most important things in my life. They're my support system! I'm attaching a photo that was taken last summer on the beach, as you can see in the background. I'm the wavy-haired girl standing at the front. In my right hand is Maria, my oldest and best friend. She loves wearing black clothes as you can see in the photo and is obsessed with Japanese culture. In Maria's right hand is Clara, the girl with purple hair. She's very funny and loves rock music. In my left hand is Paula, the girl with the white top and cargo pants. She loves cinema and music in general. At the back, the tall girl with short curly hair is Sofia, who is a very shy and sweet girl. Lastly, at the back as well but in Sofia's left hand is João, a very smart, sweet, and sensible boy.

Can you please send me a photo of you and your friends when you email me back? I would love to know about each one of them!

Bye for now!
