A story 1

The Trip of Danger

“Help me down here!” I shouted to Jhona, my best friend since I was a child, as he helped me climb the wall to enter the Palace that once belonged to the most feared god of India, Shiva, the god of destruction. “I can’t believe it,” I said as I started roaming my fingers on the old paintings pinned on the wall, describing the story of this god, what he did, and why he was so feared among the population, also mesmerized by all the fortune within the place itself. How can an astonishing and historical place like this be hidden for so long? You must be asking. That’s because it contains a treasure! My father was an explorer, he always had this curiosity for all the unknown hidden antique monuments with a backstory related to gods or something of that sort. I believe I have the same fascination for that type of stuff, because of him. Unfortunately, he lost his life trying to find this one. So, since this was his last goal, I will do it for him.

After a while, looking for hints in the paintings and the walls, trying to figure out how to find a way that led to the treasure, I lost hope, so I sat down on the ground, hopeless. “We will never find this treasure, Jhona.” Suddenly, I heard a sound, and I immediately got up to look around me and I noticed that I had seated on a button instead of a rock, on the ground. “Lara, look!” Jhona said pointing at the open door. I looked in the direction he was pointing at, and we saw the treasure there, all the gold and shiny jewellery.  “We are rich, Lara!” He said happily reaching for a hug. Suddenly, we heard a gun fired outside of the wall and I thought “It’s them!” But who are they? You might be wondering.  There are people like us too, who have the desire to find treasures. The difference between us and them is that they are willing to do whatever it takes to have the treasures, even if it means hurting other people. “Let’s get out of here!” I shouted. They threw a grenade at the wall to gain access to the building and that made us stop in our tracks. They entered one after another, shooting at us, so we fought, we didn’t have another way to overcome the situation.

Finally, we managed to get out of there, but we didn’t take the treasure with us. It was impossible! It was a life-or-death decision and I didn’t want to end up like my father, since I’m not as greedy as he was. Still, I won’t give up that easily. I will have this treasure back!

11th Form- My best friend

My best friend’s name is Catarina, she’s 14 years old and lives in Lagos. I met her on the 11th of February of 2010, and we've been best friends ever since. She's been there for all the ups and downs of my life, and I wouldn't trade her for the world.

She is very noticeable in a crowd, mainly because of her honey-colored curls and her  tanned skin, in the summer. She is blue and green-eyed and has the most beautiful and genuine smile I've ever seen.  She is not tall by any means but is a little bit above the average height for her age. She is plump in “ all of the right places” like she usually says, and loves to dress in a very Barbie style.

Her outgoing and light-hearted personality is definitely the reason why she has so many friends. She is very sweet and is always trying to help her peers. Her confidence is outstanding and the way she carries herself makes her influence touchable in a room. She loves gymnastics and practices twice a week at our local Club.  She is a clarinet player, just like me, and loves music. Her love for sports and the outdoors, as well as her love for adventure, led her to join the scouts 9 years ago and it is definitely the highlight of her week.

Overall, she is my best friend because of her amazing generosity and sincerity. Her ability to speak her mind amazes me and I would love to be like her when I grow up. And even though we may argue sometimes, I will always love her. And maybe I might be biased but I think that everyone deserves a friend as caring and sensitive as her. After all, I loved her first because she is my sister but I love her more because she is my best friend.
