 Blog Entry-Chișinău

It was late December 2018, and after a long and exhausting trip, I finally arrived with my parents in Chișinău, the capital of Moldova.

Our local relatives came to pick us up at the rendezvous, which was the bus station near the airport. The gray clouds stood over the old soviet buildings and everything that was under those clouds would plunge into darkness. The city seemed depressing and uneventful.

The cold weather would add to the already gray mixture.

However, all that coldness was warmed away by the family, we hadn't seen each other in years, it was a much-awaited moment. With them, I spent Christmas and New Year's Eve there. The apparently dead city lit up for the occasions, the streets were lively and the roads were busy, it reminded me of an awakening.

I liked this trip because I learned about how much we miss something we “hate” when we don't have it. I hate when Lagos is so crowded during the Summer, but when there were no people, I missed the liveliness of a city. One of the highlights was that when the clock hit 12:00 on the 31st of December, an enormity of fireworks were launched into the sky, but when all calmed down and the noise dispersed, it started to snow, like a “cliché” movie scene.

Travelling to London

25 November

My trip to London

Last summer, I got the opportunity to travel to England with my sister and her husband. It was around the end of July and we got there by plane.

Right after we landed, we took the train to a region of London called Tottenham. We stayed at a ‘Bed and Breakfast’ and while we explored a little bit of the area, the first thing we noticed about the people was that, the women were wearing wigs and the men had big beards and often wore clothes that looked like the ones from the Victorian era. The reason behind it was, that the locals of Tottenham were mostly Jewish. I personally found it very interesting, because they were different from other Jews that I had met before.

Since Tottenham is very close to the actual city of London, in less than 15 minutes, we got to the Westminster station by underground. The city was incredibly crowded, but it was very beautiful and we got to visit a lot of famous places like Picadilly Circus, the Big Ben, the London Eye and even got a tour of the Parliament, since my brother-in-law's aunt works there. The building is very old and historical, as well. Not many people know, but inside the Parliament there is a small chapel and by the time that women were protesting for better work conditions and better opportunities in life, there was one specific woman who hid from the police in a small cabin inside of the chapel and it was that woman who later on, was one of the few who assured the women’s rights in London.

Travelling to London was a great experience that I am thankful for. I got to learn a lot from the city and the people were very friendly and lovely. It's one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I’d like to travel there sometime soon again!

Travelling to Lívia

24 November

Last year, during the carnival holidays, I went to a place called Lívia in Spain with a large group of people from my town. Lívia is a Spanish enclave in France, in the Pyrenees area. We went by car to Sevilla and then got on a plane which took us to Barcelona. From there, we rented 3 vans and then drove to Lívia. There, we stayed in a very cozy small hotel that was almost filled with just our group of people.
Lívia is an old village and it has that feeling of a cozy old mountain village with wooden huts and stone houses. It’s really something else. This village, in particular, isn’t the most visited place in the area, but still is a great place to be, as it sits in the middle of several amazing ski resorts, some in France and some in Spain.
We went there not really to visit the village, but to go to the ski resorts and have fun! In the village, we rented our ski and snowboard gear, and the next day, we got up early and went to a ski resort in a French part of the Pyrenees called Les Angles. That day it was not as cold as we expected. We could even be on the mountain without our jackets! The next day we went to another French ski resort: Font Romeu, but I still didn’t enjoy it as much as I should because I was still learning how to snowboard, as so was my brother. The next 2 days we went to Masella, this one is situated in the Spanish part of the Pyrenees, and it was amazing. The ski resort had plenty of space for everyone to ride down the mountain comfortably. It also had a snow park where you could try to take some dangerous jumps and slides. On the last day, we went to La Molina which was very nearby Masella. We could even ski or snowboard from one resort to another! Besides the fun in the snow, I also loved the traditional food. It was so tasty!
Well, I basically loved everything on this trip. The food was amazing, the snowboarding experience was awesome, the people were always nice, and Lívia was an incredibly beautiful village which I hope to come back to, soon.

Describing a personal experience- Travelling and Senses

Quite often we don't value what we have till we lose it!
Travelling or voluntourism enable us to find out marvelous places, meet new people, learn about other cultures.
Nevertheless, deprived of at least some of our senses it would be much more difficult to explore and experience all those possibilities.
